Minister of Science, Technological Development, and Innovation, Dr. Jelena Begović, met today with the new British Ambassador to Serbia, H.E. Edward Ferguson, to discuss enhancing bilateral relations and cooperation between the two countries in the field of science.

During the meeting held at the Government of Serbia, the Minister welcomed the British Ambassador, wishing him a successful term and a pleasant stay in Serbia. Minister Begović highlighted the existing forms of cooperation with British scientific institutions and provided an overview of the BIO4 Campus project. “Our previous collaborations with Cambridge and Imperial College lay the foundation for future partnerships within the BIO4 Campus,” Dr. Begović explained.

The Minister also reminded the Ambassador that the science and technology park within the BIO4 Campus will provide a supportive environment for startup companies operating there. “We will bring together both smaller and larger international companies in the fields of biotechnology and biomedicine. We are building an ecosystem not just for Serbia but for the entire region,” Dr. Begović emphasized.

Ambassador Ferguson noted that without science and technology, no nation can effectively address complex challenges. “We see potential for expanding our cooperation and would be happy to assist you in exploring areas where this partnership could thrive,” said Mr. Ferguson.

The Ambassador congratulated the Minister on Serbia’s achievement of obtaining the status of a potential member of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL). He also acknowledged the dedication of the Serbian Government to technological advancement and strengthening the country’s scientific and innovation ecosystem.

“Serbia has many outstanding institutes dedicated to science promotion, and we also have the Science Promotion Center,” said Dr. Begović.

The Ambassador wished the Minister success in her ongoing efforts. “I look forward to seeing the BIO4 Campus flourish,” said Mr. Ferguson.
