BIO4 Campus hosted another Mini Minglarijum session, this time featuring the Research Center for Sustainable Management of Bioresources and Natural Products (PANDA) at the Institute for Biological Research "Siniša Stanković", an institute of national importance for the Republic of Serbia, University of Belgrade.

Dr. Danijela Mišić presented the center's work, which focuses on identifying and applying natural products in the development of new solutions — including drugs, medical devices, supplements, and applications in agriculture and veterinary medicine — based on natural resources, while preserving biodiversity and ensuring sustainable development.

From nature to application

PANDA's research spans the identification of organisms that serve as sources of active substances, isolation and characterization of biologically active compounds from medicinal plants, fungi, and microorganisms, structural modification of active compounds, and testing of biological activity of natural products. The center also establishes advanced technologies and standards for the extraction and analysis of biologically active compounds.

The work addresses three core areas: biomedicine, biotechnology, and the protection of biodiversity and the environment — positioning PANDA as a bridge between fundamental biodiversity research and applied product development.

Supporting sustainable innovation

By combining ecological conservation with translational research, PANDA contributes to building a pipeline of bio-based innovations grounded in Serbia's natural resources. The center's focus on sustainable management ensures that research outcomes support both economic development and long-term environmental stewardship.

The Mini Minglarijum series continues to provide a platform for BIO4 tenants and partners to share their research directions, methodologies, and strategic contributions to Serbia's life sciences and innovation ecosystem.
