Science in Action: Innovations from the Laboratory Ready for the Market
09/05/2025

The second innovation fair "Science in Action," held at the Institute INEP, brought together numerous researchers, business representatives, and institutional stakeholders. A total of 17 projects and services were presented at the fair, originating from three renowned scientific institutions – INEP, the Institute of Chemistry, Technology and Metallurgy (ICTM), and the Institute for Medical Research (IMR).
The fair was organized as part of the Empower Innovation project by Philip Morris International, implemented by NALED with the support of the BIO4 Campus.
The event demonstrated that domestic science has valuable offerings for the economy, with ready, concrete, and market-oriented solutions.
The purpose of organizing such fairs is to enable researchers to find partners in industry and for companies to improve their products and processes through collaboration with scientific institutions.
Smiljana Krivokuća, Director of the BIO4 Campus, stated that the goal of this event is to initiate and enhance cooperation between the private sector and scientific research institutions within the BIO4 Campus.
"Creating an ecosystem that supports innovation, as well as establishing conditions for science to identify and propose innovative solutions to real market challenges, is one of our main goals. We are open to hearing from all representatives of the business and industrial sectors, to understand their challenges and needs, and to jointly present solutions that are competitive nationally, regionally, and globally," emphasized Krivokuća.

The event also showcased projects focused on food safety, such as allergen detection and control, as well as the use of biofilters to remove aflatoxins from milk and juices. Innovations in biotechnology and medicine were also presented, along with solutions like second-generation energy crops that can contribute to the energy transition.
Another science innovation fair is expected to be held by the end of the year.
