Serbia’s BIO4 Campus and Innovation Strategies in Focus During Meeting with UNIDO

A representative of the Ministry of Science, Technological Development, and Innovation, Ivana Vukašinović, Acting Assistant Minister in the Sector for International Cooperation and European Integration, met at the Government of the Republic of Serbia with Josef Karl Pelikan, Chief of Cabinet of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), and Ambassador and Senior Advisor, Ranko Vujačić.

Ms. Vukašinović presented the scope of work and activities of the Ministry of Science, Technological Development, and Innovation to the UNIDO representatives, outlining the Ministry's priorities and strategic framework, including the Strategy for the Development of Science and Technological Development, the Smart Specialization Strategy, and the Artificial Intelligence Development Strategy.

Ms. Vukašinović emphasized that following the establishment of the BioSense Institute, recognized as a European center of excellence and a place where technology converges with agriculture, the Republic of Serbia continues to invest in science through the creation of the BIO4 Campus. The BIO4 Campus represents the synergy of four key areas: biodiversity, biotechnology, biomedicine, and bioinformatics, making it the largest science project in Serbia and the region.

She noted that the BIO4 Campus will be a multifunctional space, integrating nine scientific institutes and four faculties, with construction activities planned to be completed by 2026.

Mr. Pelikan from UNIDO highlighted the importance of cooperation with the Ministry of Science, Technological Development, and Innovation, reflected on past projects in Serbia, and expressed interest in learning more about ongoing activities and projects in the Republic of Serbia. He also informed Ms. Vukašinović about the upcoming UNIDO General Conference scheduled for November and expressed a desire for deeper collaboration with the Ministry.

This meeting represents an important step toward enhancing cooperation between the Ministry of Science, Technological Development, and Innovation and UNIDO.
